Elms
Hello & welcome to Elms.
Your class teacher is Mrs Glover & your teaching assistants are Mrs Bastovanovic and Mrs Everall.
Topic
Our topic for the Autumn term is “Coming to the UK“ which we will be across most of our subjects. This history focused topic looks at migration throughout time, helping children understand how the United Kingdom has provided a safe home for people from all over the world at different points in history.
English
Our English this term will be closely linked to our history topic. We will be rewriting a familiar narrative, writing our own acrostic poetry, writing a letter and much more.
Maths
In Maths, we will continue to use the White Rose scheme and will be looking at place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and more. All the children will still have a focus on practising their times tables alongside weekly sessions of Mathletics. Please encourage them to have a go at home using their own log in details. (www.mathletics.com.uk) The children now have access to Times Tables Rock Stars, please see their home school diary for their log in (www.ttrockstars.com)
Geography
Geography will link closely to our History topic as we track the different journeys taken during migration. The children will also build key map skills by exploring lines of latitude and longitude, and discovering how time zones work across the globe.
Art
In Art we will be exploring still life drawings and using one-point perspective when drawing, taking inspiration from the fluid movement of migration, linking our art to history and geography.
PE
In PE we will be starting the year with Outdoor Adventure Activities, focusing on working well within a team to solve problems, respecting others when leading a team whilst having lots of fun and getting fit. We will also be going swimming each Thursday.
Science
In Science, we’re blasting off into space! The children will explore Earth’s place in the solar system, discover why the Sun is so vital, and investigate how shadows are formed. This light-themed journey will then bring us down to Earth as we take a fascinating, in-depth look at the human eye and how it sees light.
We are excited for another fantastic term and hope to earn the title of ‘Class of the Week’ bringing home the ‘Oakgrove Owl’ to our wonderful class.
