Maples
Welcome to Maples we are a mix of year 3 and year 4 children. There are two adults in Maples, Ms Whelan the class teacher and Mrs Everall the class teaching assistant

Maths
In Maths we will be following the White Rose scheme of work, developing our multiplication and division, shape and money skills. We are aiming to improve our times table knowledge login will go home for Times Tables Rockstar’s which is a great resource to help improve tables knowledge quickly. The children will also have a weekly session using Mathletics and will be given their details to be able to use their account at home if they wish.
English
In English we will be reading The Rainbow Bear by Michael Morpurgo and using this to write about settings. We will be continuing to focus on developing our spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
Our Topic this term is The Romans, we will be finding out about How the Roman Empire was able to expand and what made the Romans successful.
Art
In Art we will be looking at symmetry and linking this to Roman designs. We will produce a finished piece using printing. In DT we will be making a Roman Trebuchet, testing its accuracy and then evaluating it.
Geography
Geography this half term will be based on comparing Chester & Rome. We will be asking questions How are they the same? and How different are they?
PE
On Monday’s a coach from Stockport County Football Club will be coming in to teach us football skills. In PE Maples will be concentrating on developing our gymnastic skills on a Tuesday. This will involve us developing our ability to work with others, trust, listening and co-operation skills. Please make sure that you send a full PE kit into school with trainers, which will be sent home at the end of every half term.
We expect every child to read at home at least 4 times during the week. Children who achieve this will be rewarded with a weekly raffle ticket and will be entered into a prize draw at the end of term where there will be the opportunity to win a variety of prizes.
